The American University in Dubai (AUD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with M42, an Abu Dhabi-based global health company focused on artificial intelligence, technology, and genomics.

The partnership will expand practical learning opportunities for biology and pre-medical students, strengthen knowledge exchange, and support the development of future healthcare talent in the UAE.

The MOU was signed during the Future Health Summit in Abu Dhabi by Dr. Kyle Long, President of AUD, and Mr. Faisal Al Mulla, Senior Vice President, Global Human Capital at M42.

The ceremony took place in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mansour bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan; Dr. Fernando Macário, Group Chief Medical Officer at M42; and Dr. Muriel Tahtouh Zaatar, Chair of AUD’s Department of Biological and Physical Sciences.

The agreement brings together AUD’s academic expertise and M42’s integrated healthcare ecosystem. It will connect university learning with research, clinical observation, and training experiences, helping students understand how scientific knowledge, technology, and patient care come together across modern healthcare.

Selected AUD biology and pre-medical students will have opportunities to participate in research, training, and clinical observation across relevant M42 facilities. Potential areas of engagement include neuroscience, cancer, metabolic and cardiovascular health, digital health, and genomics.

This exposure will introduce students to a range of disciplines and potential career pathways while deepening their understanding of the relationship between applied science, technology, and healthcare practice.

“At AUD, we want students to understand how the knowledge they develop at university can contribute to the world around them,”
said Dr. Long.
“Our collaboration with M42 creates opportunities for biology and pre-medical students to see that knowledge in practice through research, observation, and hands-on learning. Engaging with healthcare professionals will help students make informed decisions about their futures while strengthening their ability to contribute to society.”

Andreas Fagher, Group Chief Human Capital Officer at M42, said:
“The future of healthcare depends on people who can connect scientific understanding with practical experience and the needs of patients. Through our collaboration with the American University in Dubai, we aim to give students meaningful exposure to the environments where care is delivered and innovation takes shape. By bringing education closer to practice, we are helping develop the skills and perspectives that will support the UAE’s healthcare ambitions.”

Beyond student experiences, AUD and M42 will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise through potential joint events, workshops, and training programs. Educational, research, and outreach activities may also include seminars and panel discussions focused on applied life sciences and healthcare innovation.

The two organizations will also explore M42-led initiatives to support biology and pre-medical students, including potential scholarships aligned with UAE national workforce development and Emiratization priorities.
