Program Description

Teaching and learning with iPads in classrooms is a 6-weeks program for educators to prepare them on how to successfully integrate iPads into their classrooms. The program is designed to equip participants with the technical and pedagogical skills to create engaging and effective experiences in which learning is connected, collaborative, creative, and personal for every individual. Participants will understand the complex nature of how to manage the workflow from student to teacher and back. Within the collaborative learning model, participants will learn how to design, implement, and evaluate classroom activities and assessments that incorporate different applications. By the end of the program, participants will be able to create an academic argument about using iPads for teaching and learning.

Duration

The course will be delivered over 6 full day workshops (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) on Sundays from 15 January through 19 February 2023.

Session 3: Sunday January 29, 2023
Session 4: Sunday February 5, 2023
Session 5: Sunday February 12, 2023
Session 6: Sunday February 19, 2023

Method of Delivery

This program is taught in the Education Innovation Lab (E203) at the School of Education in the American University in Dubai (AUD). Instructional methods include practical training, interactive activities, discussions, reflections, teamwork and independent tasks. Participants will actively participate during each session using their iPad devices.

Devices

Participants will need iPads. Participants should bring their own devices to every session. It is advisable to bring an Apple Pencil or any other compatible stylus.

Participants who do not have iPads and wish to purchase one can indicate this on the registration form to receive a special discount.

Assignments

Participants will design a unit plan incorporating the 5 elements of learning and using different tools and applications. The details of the project will be shared and discussed in week 3.

Certification

Upon completion of the course, participants are eligible to receive an official certificate issued by AUD’s School of Education in partnership with Pedagogy & Beyond (Authorized Apple professional learning provider)—provided they attend a minimum of 80% of the sessions and achieve a satisfactory score on the final project.

Payment Procedure and Class Size

  • Minimum class size is 8 seats, otherwise the course will be cancelled.
  • After you register, you will receive a confirmation of seat reservation.
  • When a minimum number of participants register, you will receive a payment request by email.
  • Payment must be completed within 5 days following the receipt of the payment request.
  • Seats will be provided based on a first come first served policy; failure to provide payment as per the deadline will result in forfeiting your reserved seat.

Cancellation Policy

No shows will not be reimbursed.

In a situation where the course is cancelled, then full payment will be refunded to all participants.
