The American University in Dubai (AUD) highlighted the achievements of its STEM students during the UAE’s Emirati Women’s Day celebrations, hosted by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in collaboration with the Women in Biotech Network. The event also provided a platform for AUD to discuss the contributions of its students to research and innovation in STEM, showcasing the practical impact of the AUD’s programs.

Dr. Muriel Tahtouh Zaatar, Chair of the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences, joined a panel of leading women professionals from healthcare, academia, and industry to discuss Women’s Health and Wellbeing, speaking to an audience of around 200 Emirati and international women leaders, professionals, academics, and entrepreneurs.

During the panel, Dr. Zaatar highlighted the accomplishments of AUD students in STEM, including collaborative research projects, presentations at major conferences like the World Police Summit and Arab Health, publications in peer-reviewed journals, successful transitions from internships to professional roles, and active roles through the Biology Student Society where they mentor peers and lead research teams.

“At AUD, we are proud to support the UAE’s national strategy for STEM and innovation by equipping our students with the skills, mentorship, and real-world opportunities to succeed. Our participation in Emirati Women’s Day reflects this commitment to preparing the next generation to contribute to the nation and beyond,”
said Dr. Zaatar.

AUD has also seen growth in female and Emirati student participation across its STEM programs, reflecting increasing interest in pursuing careers in science, technology, and innovation.
