It is my great pleasure and honor to serve as the Director of The Middle East Cities Center (MECC) at AUD. More than 50% of the world’s population live in cities and this is expected to rise to 68% by 2050. Indeed, cities are becoming more important in advancing economic, social and environmental sustainability. Thus, the MECC was born to serve as an umbrella for conversation and research on cities. The Center aims at developing research in partnership with Industry on topics related to sustainability, resilience, competitiveness and future of cities. It will also provide consultancy work to governments and the private sector to advance their work in SDGs field and develop best practices on these crucial topics.
The Center prides itself on having forged strong partnerships with key international organizations, prestigious universities, local government entities and private sector entities. With these partnerships, and others on the way, the MECC hopes to produce top tier research and create a conversation space around the key themes of sustainability and future cities. We welcome and invite city experts, policy makers and private sector specialists to take an active role in these conversations to chart the path forward with collaboration.
