"Fall semester in Copenhagen" by Farah Salem

Apr 28, 2026

My semester abroad at the University of Copenhagen was one of the most rewarding adventures of my university journey. As a true travel junkie, choosing Copenhagen felt like the perfect opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and experience a culture completely different from that of Dubai or Egypt. Of course, I had the normal fears of missing my family, adjusting to a new routine, and wondering if I could handle the responsibility, but that’s what made it truly special: setting new challenges for myself. From my first chaotic metro ride to celebrating my 20th birthday on the first week of landing under the northern lights, I immediately felt a new sense of home. Studying abroad taught me independence, confidence, and how to truly enjoy solo company while still making one of the most memorable friendships. Copenhagen is truly one of the calmest and friendliest cities for living, one with the prettiest sunsets too.

If I had to describe the experience in two words, it would be: a restart button. Be ready to come home with new memories, a new definition of friendship, a new winter wardrobe, and a new, extravagant version of yourself.
