Interior Design Students at the American University in Dubai (AUD) were awarded Second Place in the category of Undergraduate Winners at the 2021 Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Student Design Competition. This recognition makes AUD the only winner outside of the USA and Canada.

The annual IDEC Student Design Competition is a top student competition involving the major design universities. IDEC member schools represent most of the ID programs in the United States and Canada. This year’s competition focused on the design of a resource facility for veterans. The competition involved 31 design schools for 86 entries; 81 undergraduate entries and 5 graduate entries.

The winning AUD students, Joelle Kassapoglou, Zeina Younis, Malak Ghoneim and Wesam Zaki, under the mentorship of Professor Kristin Lee, Chair and Associate Professor of Interior Design, developed the project SCAR. This project focused on the issues many veterans face as well as how the right design can help create a healing environment, whilst maintaining innovative and sustainable living.
