Dr. Akram Al Matarneh, Associate Professor of Business Administration at the American University in Dubai (AUD), represented the university at the UNCITRAL–UAE Global Summit on Digital Trade and Digital Platforms, hosted by the UAE Ministry of Economy.
The summit brought together policymakers, academics, and industry experts to discuss the evolving landscape of digital trade, platform-based business models, and international regulatory considerations. Discussions focused on the role of digital platforms in global commerce, governance frameworks, and cross-border trade operations.

AUD’s participation forms part of its ongoing engagement with the Ministry of Economy following the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier in the year, under which the university contributes to the Ministry’s Knowledge and Innovation Hub. The collaboration aims to integrate academic expertise into national economic priorities and support evidence-based policy dialogue.
The event provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange between academic institutions and national and international stakeholders on issues shaping the future of digital trade and platform economies.
