How microelements can influence macro engineering behavior

WEBINAR

WEDNESDAY, 17th MARCH 2021 AT 12:00PM
ZOOM REGISTRATION

The aim of this talk is to assess the impact of the microscale material structures on the macroscale engineering behavior of materials. During the talk, Dr. Wilkinson will look at microscale methods of analysis and show how micro-observations can provide data to assist in the understanding of materials. This talk will also cover an overview of two major research projects. The Imperial College Mudrocks Project and the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University biomineralization project. For the first project, the relationship between engineering behavior and geological history will be explored via microstructural analysis. The second project will cover ground investigation methods followed by an assessment of microbially induced carbonate precipitation for the modification of strength and permeability characteristics of the ground.

Guest Speaker:

Stephen Wilkinson
Associate Professor in Geology for Civil Engineers
University of Wollongong in Dubai
