The opportunity to participate in AUD approved internships is an option available to students in all Majors, and students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this program. Your internship can complement your classroom experience and earn credits towards your degree, all the while gaining practical learning experience in a professional, real-world setting.
What is the difference between an accredited and unaccredited internship?
Accredited internships are recognized by AUD and upon successful completion, a P/F grade is issued for 3 credit hours. They are more structured than unaccredited internships, which are not recognized by AUD. Therefore, both opportunities offer valuable working experience, but accredited internships lead to earned credit hours.
Am I eligible for an accredited internship?
To be eligible, students must be of senior status, have completed 90 credit hours or more, and have a GPA above 2.0 or higher. Different eligibility requirements are set by different departments; therefore it is advisable to speak with Career Services or your Dean or Chair before applying. All accredited internships must be completed within the UAE.
Once a company offers me a position, how do I apply for an accredited internship?
Speak with Career Services to learn more about the internship program requirements and eligibility, collect the appropriate documentation from the company, and then fill in the application form.
How long do I need to work in order to earn 3 credit hours?
It is related to your field of study and can range between a minimum of 200 hours up to 250- hours. Ideally, these hours are to be completed within one academic semester.
What am I required to submit after my internship is over?
Apart from the reports that are meant to be submitted to your faculty advisor during the internship, you are required to provide the manager overlooking your internship an evaluation form to be filled, signed and sent directly to your faculty advisor through them.
