The American University in Dubai proudly welcomed its newest class of Knights during Orientation Week 2025, held from August 25 – 29, culminating with the university’s annual Convocation Ceremony. The week served as both a celebration and a crucial introduction to academic life, designed to prepare students for a successful journey at AUD.
Orientation Week is an essential milestone for all new students, offering the tools, resources, and connections necessary to thrive in university life. The program introduced students to academic expectations, campus facilities, support services, and co-curricular opportunities while fostering a sense of belonging within the AUD community. This year, AUD welcomed hundreds of new students representing more than 50 nationalities, a testament to the university’s diverse and dynamic environment. Students and parents traveled from across the globe, further enriching AUD’s multicultural campus culture.
Throughout the week, new Knights connected with peers, faculty, staff, and alumni through interactive workshops, social events, and peer-led activities. From networking sessions and collaborative workshops to social nights and cultural experiences, students had multiple opportunities to build friendships and begin shaping their academic and personal journeys.
The week’s agenda featured a wide range of sessions tailored to both students and parents, including: Creative Thinking, Innovation and Entrepreneurship with Dr. Tatiana Zalan; Succeeding at AUD: Your Guide to University Life with Mrs. Nelly; Workshops on feedback and accreditation, AI literacy, digital readiness, and campus resources; Creative and interactive sessions such as ceramics workshops, scavenger hunts, and library tours and Parent-focused discussions on student transitions, independence, and wellness.
The official Convocation Day, marked the start of the academic journey. Dr. Kyle Long, President of AUD; Dr. Sara L. Montero, Dean of Student Affairs; and Dr. Assaad Farah, Interim Provost and Chief Academic Officer welcomed the new class, followed by a New Convocation Stole Ceremony, symbolizing students’ initiation into the AUD community. The day continued with alumni reflections, first-year essentials workshops, parent sessions on transitioning, departmental orientations, and a vibrant Resource Fair.
Dr. Montero reflected on the week with the following message, “Orientation and Convocation are more than traditions, they are the foundation of our students’ journey at AUD. This year’s events not only welcomed our new Knights but also empowered them with the knowledge, connections, and confidence to embrace every opportunity ahead. Over the course of the week, we witnessed students forming genuine friendships, supporting one another, and discovering the many resources that will guide them throughout their studies. By the time Convocation arrived, our new Knights were no longer strangers to campus or to each other they were already part of a community.”
