The American University in Dubai (AUD) welcomed more than 40 counselors from 15 countries for the AUD International Counselor Forum 2026, held under the theme Counseling in a Changing World: Careers, Industry & Global Perspectives.
The two-day forum positioned AUD as a regional convenor of dialogue on the future of careers and global education at a time of rapid technological and economic transformation. The forum opened with remarks from Dr. Kyle Long, President of AUD, who emphasized the critical role counselors play in guiding students through an increasingly complex academic and professional landscape. He underscored the shared responsibility of educators and institutions to equip students not only with academic excellence, but with the adaptability, digital fluency, and global awareness required in a fast-evolving workforce.
A dynamic panel discussion followed, examining the evolving job market and the growing influence of artificial intelligence on future career pathways. The conversation brought together Michael Estafanous, Senior Talent Acquisition Manager at Microsoft; Sara Almheiri, Customer Voice and Digital Services Expert at the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Dr. Assaad Farah, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at AUD.

Drawing on perspectives from industry, government, and academia, the panel explored emerging opportunities, shifting employer expectations, and how universities must continuously evolve to prepare students for a future shaped by innovation and lifelong learning. The program continued with interactive breakout sessions led by global education leaders. Dr. Matthew Chovanec, Director of International – Southwest Asia & North Africa at the College Board, shared insights into the AP Career Kickstart initiative and its role in supporting student career exploration and skill development.
A dedicated session on IB Career Readiness was led by Mr. Richard Drew, Chair of the UAE IB Association at the International Baccalaureate Organization, alongside Ms. Shahana Salman, Head of University & Careers at Uptown International School, highlighting how the IB framework equips students with competencies aligned to higher education success and globally competitive career pathways.
Reflecting on the impact of the forum, Rachelle Yaacoub, Assistant Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions at AUD, said: “Over two days of ideas, insights, and networking, the energy in every session was incredible. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, share ideas, and strengthen our global education community. Beyond the formal sessions, the forum created a meaningful platform for collaboration, professional exchange, and relationship-building.”
By convening counselors from diverse educational systems and geographies, AUD reinforced its commitment to fostering global partnerships and equipping education professionals with forward-looking insights into industry trends and the evolving landscape of international higher education.
