The American University in Dubai (AUD) hosted a fireside chat titled “Cybersecurity and the Future of Talent: Why It Matters,” bringing students, faculty, and professionals together for an engaging discussion on one of the most pressing global challenges.
The session featured Guillermo S. Christensen, Partner at K&L Gates LLP in Washington, D.C., and an internationally recognized expert in cybersecurity, national security, and cross-border regulatory compliance. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Wael Bazzi, Dean of the School of Engineering and Professor of Computer Engineering at AUD.

Drawing on his extensive experience advising governments and multinational corporations, Christensen shared insights into how cybersecurity has evolved from a technical concern into a strategic, leadership-level priority across governments and industries worldwide. The conversation explored emerging cyber threats, incident response, ransomware, and the growing importance of talent development in cybersecurity and related fields.

The session also highlighted the critical role universities play in preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, through advanced technical training and by cultivating skills in governance, decision-making, and risk management. An interactive Q&A session with students followed, offering practical perspectives on career pathways and future trends shaping the cybersecurity landscape.
This fireside chat reflects AUD’s ongoing commitment to advancing dialogue that bridges technology, policy, and global security, and reinforces the University’s focus on developing academic initiatives in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
