Mai worked for six years with mobile operator Vodafone Egypt, as a Data Network Team Leader. Her work included technical support for data network services and project management. She is also experienced in offshore call centers which inspired her Master's degree thesis.
She later worked for two years at the American University in Cairo in the Mathematics & Actuarial Science Department as a Computer Lab Supervisor, where she was in charge of the IT services for the department including the computer lab facility, the teaching classroom and the department website. She also provided technical and academic support for professors, teaching assistants and students.
In 2008, she volunteered to manage the Tenth Islamic Countries Conference on Statistical Sciences ICCS-X website. The conference, which took place in 2009, was cosponsored by the American University in Cairo (AUC) and the Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC).
Mai joined the American University in Dubai in 2010 as a Computer and Information Technology Laboratories Coordinator. She is a Certified Cisco Instructor, and teaches a variety of professional education courses on computer networks at AUD.
