Dr. Naved Bakali joined AUD in 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the School of Education. Prior to this he was a mathematics and social studies teacher in Quebec, Canada for 9 years. Throughout his work experiences as a teacher, Dr. Bakali completed his MA and PhD in Educational Studies at McGill University, Canada. As an educator, researcher, and social activist, his research was infused with his passion and commitment to social justice and equity education.

Dr. Bakali’s research interests include Muslim youth experiences with race and racism, push and pull factors leading towards violent extremism, educational programming for youth that are survivors of trauma and violence, and Islamic education in the United Arab Emirates. The ultimate goal of his research is to understand and develop practical approaches to social justice education in diverse learning environments.

Dr. Bakali has published and lectured widely in the fields of social justice education and equity education. His current research initiatives are focusing on the themes of conflict education and tolerance education within Islamic education programming in the MENA region.

In his spare time he enjoys staying active through sports and exercise, as well as spending time with friends and family.
