Assistant Professor of Cultural Studies

School of Arts & Sciences

Ph.D., Classics and Ancient History, University of Exeter, UK
M.A., Classical Civilizations, NUIG, Ireland

Prior to starting at AUD in 2016, Dr. Brennan spent five years working as a lecturer in the history department at Mardin Artuklu University in the southeast of Turkey. His main subject areas are Greek historiography, minor Anatolian civilizations, and identity formation in ancient and modern contexts; he is also interested in social change and political movements in Turkey. He strongly believes that an informed view of the past is vital to understanding today's complex societies and that the historian has a singular role in ensuring that the past remains relevant to contemporary debates
