Dr. Paul Narh Doku joined the American University in Dubai in August 2024 as an Associate Professor of Psychology. He holds a Synergy PhD in Psychology (Psychological Medicine and Mental Health) from the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, Scotland, UK. Prior to joining AUD, Dr. Doku served as a Visiting Scholar at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, UAE for the 2023/24 academic year. He also taught during the 2024 Summer Semester at the Canadian University in Dubai, UAE. Dr. Doku has lectured as a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Mental Health, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Cape Coast, and as a Lecturer at the University of Ghana. He is a Chartered Psychologist and holds professional membership with the American Psychological Association, the British Psychological Society, and the Ghana Psychological Association.

Dr. Doku’s research has focused mainly on the psychosocial aspects of vulnerable children and young people, mental health in general, positive psychology, and quality of life. He has a strong and varied list of publications, with selected publications in top journals such as Lancet, Lancet HIV, Nature, Nature Medicine, Psychological Medicine, AIDS Care, Plos One Global Public Health, BMC Medicine, and BMC Public Health. He is also an Academic Editor for both Plos One and Journal of AIDS and HIV Research and does article reviewing for several renowned journals in the health and social sciences. Dr. Doku currently serves as an Expert Assessor for Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), formerly the National Accreditation Board (NAB) that provides expert review and assessment on undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology, Counselling, and Mental Health curricula of a number of Universities and Colleges in Ghana. He also serves as external examiner for Masters/Doctoral theses for universities both locally and internationally.

Dr. Doku has extensive management experience and has been responsible for academic programs at the Department of Human Development and Psychology, Regent University in Ghana, then as Head of Department. He was also Head of the Mental Health Department and Vice-Dean in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Cape Coast. As a professional Psychologist, Dr. Doku has worked with diverse clients and populations for many years. He also served Residence Counsellor (Hall Tutorship) for resident university students at both Kwame Nkrumah Hall, University of Cape Coast, and Jean Aka Nelson Hall, University of Ghana.
