The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree at AUD is a five-year program, taught by a faculty whose combination of academic qualifications and experience clearly delivers on the promise of producing highly skilled, employable and world-class architectural graduates.

The course is led by a faculty of academic and professionally qualified individuals who combine educational enrichment with practical and professional training.

Upon completion of the B.Arch. students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a multidimensional, comprehensive and integrative approach to design;
  • Produce design that integrates building technology, construction, systems, and materials in a creative and original manner;
  • Produce design that demonstrates knowledge in history and theory of architecture;
  • Produce design that acknowledges and integrates the human, sociocultural, and economic aspects at the local, regional, and global levels;
  • Produce design that demonstrates awareness, concern, and understanding of the physical context, as well as environmental issues;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of architectural practice in administrative, financial, and legal terms and observes ethical standards;
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce and present architectural designs by communicating clearly and effectively in oral, written and graphical forms, as well as in advanced digital software and media.

The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree is a five-year program consisting of 166 hours of required credit. The course aims to prepare highly qualified graduates for professional employment in the field of architecture by equipping them with the fundamental skills, knowledge and business acumen required to succeed in a fast moving industry.

During the duration of the course, students will be:

  • Educated in the fundamental skills and knowledge of architecture, while integrating history and theory.
  • Taught how to create and understand both the physics and characteristics of building materials
  • Equipped with the knowledge to appreciate and understand the aesthetics of the structures they design.
  • Given an awareness of the importance of professional ethics, cultural diversity and environmental impact
  • Educated in the technological, digital, artistic, socio-cultural, legal and financial dimensions in the field of architecture.

All B.Arch. students must follow the specified course sequencing with more than 35 modules ranging from the theory of architecture to sustainable urbanism. For the full course descriptions and sequencing, click here.


  • The Department of Architecture maintains several well-equipped and advanced computer labs and lounges.
  • Hardware is updated or upgraded on an annual basis and can accommodate all architecturally-led software including 2D graphics, 3D modeling and rendering, 4D animations and walkthroughs.
  • A dedicated IT services team is on hand to help keep all resources running smoothly, as well as troubleshooting personal laptops.
  • In-house scanners, printers and large format plotting are all available.
  • A dedicated model and furniture making workshop is located on campus.
  • A design center serves to engage faculty and students in research and outreach to the architecture community at large.


All applying students must have:

  • A high school/secondary school certificate or equivalent from an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education in the U.A.E. or by the relevant national or regional institutional accrediting body;
  • International TOEFL®or Academic IELTSTM or the equivalent score on another internationally-recognized English exam. PBT is accepted from specific centers in the UAE.
  • The University administers the ACCUPLACERTM Exam (Math) to place students at the appropriate mathematics level. Students may substitute the SAT for this, depending on the score.
