Bou Saab said in his opening remarks that we are fortunate to live in an Emirate led by just such an optimistic leader: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Bou Saab emphasized on the importance of the word ‘opportunity’ which defines what we are looking for: “The opportunity to learn, to succeed, and to achieve, but you have to be willing to take advantage of your opportunities. To see an opportunity, to seize it, to take a risk; those are the elements that bring success.”

In his speech, he referred to the late British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who said, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

Kucinich, US Congressman who addressed the graduates saying: “This day announces you are prepared. The journey which brought you here has conferred upon you a commencement to the future of your dreams.

Based on his experience and perseverance throughout his career, Mr. Kucinich added: “I ran for Congress five times in a period of twenty-five years before I was elected. I know what it is to try and to fail. Do not fear failure. Let failure be your friend. It prepares you for what you desire to achieve and you arrive at your new destination with growing beauty and wisdom, thanking your friend for the visit.

Like every year, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed personally conferred the degrees onto the students, honoring the graduates and wishing them success in their professional life. He also lauded AUD for being able to prepare capable and confident youth who are assuming prominent and leading positions in the UAE and abroad.

Provost/Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jihad Nader presented the departmental awards to the graduating students with the highest academic standing in their respective programs. He was joined by the Chairs and Deans of the different Departments and Schools at AUD.
