|Dated : July 17th, 2012|
The American University in Dubai (AUD) recently announced the creation of a new Department of Business and Economics as a fourth department within the School of Business Administration (SBA). The restructuring comes as part of a master plan for reorganization of AUD's academic units. The School’s three other departments are: Finance and Accounting, Management, and Marketing and Marketing Communications. The four departments offer a wide range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Jihad S. Nader, Provost/Chief Academic Officer at AUD comments, “This is another step of a strategic move whose aim, through expanding and solidifying the SBA’s academic and administrative leadership, is to enable the school to more fully realize its strategic priorities and to achieve higher operating efficiency and effectiveness.”
Dr. John Katsos, Assistant Professor of Business Administration at AUD, will chair the newly formed Department of Business and Economics. He teaches Business Ethics, Business Law, and Principles of Management. Professor Katsos earned his JD and MBA from the George Washington University in Washington, DC and his BA in Religion from Haverford College in Haverford.
Professor Katsos’ research is focused on how businesses can mitigate risk and enhance peace in conflict and post-conflict zones and how international businesses can limit their legal exposure under US law as a result of foreign operations.
Prior to AUD, Professor Katsos worked at Occidental Petroleum, the US Small Business Administration, the New York County District Attorney’s Office, and the George Washington University.
On his new appointment as Chair of the Department of Business and Economics, Dr. Katsos comments: “It is an absolute honor to be named the Chair of the Department of Business and Economics. The formation of the new Department will help us continue to provide our students with a world-class, American-style business education, while empowering our faculty to remain on the cutting edge of their fields.”
The Mission of the School of Business Administration (SBA) at AUD is to provide UAE, GCC and international students with high-quality, forward-looking, career-oriented educational programs in the management of business organizations, with the option of selecting concentrations in one or more functional areas of business management.
