Department of IT

Undergraduate : Department of Information Technology : Laboratories

The department of Information Technology has a Server Room and 5 designated labs within the E building that are specially equipped to meet the program objectives. The capacity of each lab is 25 students. The following provides more details:

The Server Room

This temperature controlled server room houses 3 racks of high end servers. These include the following:

  • 2 Sun Microsystems Sun Fire X2200 M2 including 2x 2.6GHz DualCore AMD CPU, 8GB RAM, 300GBHDD)
  • 2 Sun Microsystems Sun Fire X4200 M2 including 2x 2.8GHz DualCore AMD CPU, 16GB RAM, 600GB HDD.
  • Two Terabytes NAS storage from Sun Microsystems (StorageTek 5220 NAS - 8x 250GBSATA)
  • Four Dell PowerEdge 1850 Servers all with two 3.4Ghz DualCore Intel Xeon CPUs, 4GB Ram and 300GB HDD.
  • Two HP DL380 servers with 2Ghz QuadCore Intel Xeon CPUs, 4GB Ram and 300GB HDD.
  • Six Dell PowerEdge 1600SC servers with 2.8Ghz processors, 2GB Ram and 100GB HDD.
  • Six custom servers.

Advanced Enterprise Computing Lab

Enterprise LabThis Lab is prepared with eight Sun Microsystems Sun Ultra 40 workstation (3.0 GHz/dual-core AMD CPU, 4GB RAM, FX1500, 300GB HDD) running the Solaris operating systems. These workstations provide an optimal environment for running all kinds of simulations and design tools.
The lab also has 17 Sun Ray 270 clients connecting to the Server Room. These support the Sun Ray software technology that allows students and faculty to login once and carry their session with them using an electronic card the size of a credit card. This system promotes serious collaboration between faculty members and students (students can go to a faculty office and need to just insert their card to instantly get the desktop session that they were working on to discuss problems and get faculty advice.)
The lab is also prepared with four unique domains called Web Farms. Each domain consists of a cluster of 4 Windows 2003 Servers each running an IIS server. One of the four severs is also acting as a domain controller and load balance manager for that cluster. The same configuration of four clustered domains is implemented with Weblogic Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) servers.

Advanced Database Lab

Database LabThe database lab utilizes the Server Room by running Oracle 10g Enterprise RDBMS on 6 of the servers and running the Microsoft SQL 2005 Enterprise DBMS on 4 other server. The lab is also equipped with 27 client desktop computers, a Projector and a smart board. All the computers are connected to a high-speed Internet Network.
Advanced Network Solutions Lab

Network Lab

Our network lab serves three purposes. One lets students learn general network technology using various network hardware and software combinations and configurations. 6 routers, 6 switches, 1 firewall, and 2 windows 2003 servers are available for this purpose.

The other important role of this lab is to train students on the Cisco certifications. The recent addition of 6 new Cisco 1841 routers and Cisco Catalyst 2950 switches serves this purpose. The lab will also host Cisco IP telephony equipments and Cisco security bundle.

Students also have the opportunity to learn computer system hardware and they can get ready for A+ certification through this lab. The lab is also connected to a high-speed Internet Network and houses a Projector and a smart board.

General PC Labs

The department also has 2 general purpose PC labs. Each of these is equipped with 25-30 PCs and a Projector and is connected to a high-speed Internet Network.
