Associate Professor of Information Technology

Dr Alex Alexandropoulos is a specialist in the area of enterprise system architectures and systems integration. He holds a Ph.D in E-commerce from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), an M.Sc. in Advanced IT (also from UMIST) and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Wales . For a number of years Dr Alex worked in the IT arena within the shipping industry, where he was rapidly promoted to the position of development manager. His work was mainly concerned with the design and development of distributed n-tier component based systems and also the research, design, and development of advanced satellite and multi-protocol communication and integration systems for blue chip clients such as Mobil (UK), V-Ships, Great White fleet etc. A large proportion of his industrial experience was also related to the co-ordination of a research centre in close collaboration with UMIST. The collaborative efforts of the company team lead to the company receiving two major international awards i.e. the CITIES 2000 and Seatrade 2000 awards for innovation.

He has also worked for a variety of private companies as a freelance consultant on many e-commerce and web related projects. While completing his Ph.D., Dr Alex participated in several European Community ESPRIT projects. He also worked as a research assistant at UMIST, where he fulfilled several academic roles such as assistant lecturer and assistant project supervisor for advanced M.Sc. students. A large proportion of his work was dedicated to researching the visualization of business data over the Internet using Virtual Reality.
