Inauguration of Award for Outstanding Community Service Publication of “Celebrate Dubai” Book of Poetry

AUD CO8 ASSOCIATION

The American University in Dubai Class of 2008 Association - AUD CO8, a newly formed alumni student initiative is currently working on a marketing campaign for the creation and publication of a Book of Poetry “Celebrate Dubai”. The project is part of a marketing course (MCOM 43: IMC Campaign Development) the students are taking with Dr. Ode Amaize, Assistant Professor of Marketing Communications at AUD. The aim of the book is to showcase the poetic talent of Dubai’s residents. The proposed title is “Celebrate Dubai” which will also be the general theme for all poems produced. “Celebrate Dubai” is a book that commemorates the city of Dubai and the lives of those who live in it. The book will feature poetry in two languages (English & Arabic) written by residents portraying the city’s beauty through words.

The sale of the poetry books will raise money for The AUD C08 Association Award for Outstanding Community Service. This award will be presented annually to a graduating senior student with a broad-based, continuing commitment to addressing community needs. The award highlights community service as an important element of AUD’s academic mission, which is an element of the ‘whole person education’. This award recognizes individuals who have excelled and demonstrated outstanding interest in the area of community service.

“The AUD C08 seeks to encourage and develop the burgeoning community spirit within AUD. By encouraging youth to participate in the different facets of society, we wish to create a global commitment among AUD students. One manner in which to recognize this behavior is through the presentation of awards for such commitment”, explains Javeria Pasha, president of AUD C08.

“Celebrate Dubai” will also involve the larger community, as all Dubai residents – children, adults, students, elderly are invited to participate in the content of the book; “People of all ages and professions are encouraged to take part in the development of what will be a unique and distinctive book for Dubai, and to partake means to enhance our sense of community”, comments Pasha.

In addition to having their poems published, selected entries will receive a considerable discount on the purchase of the book and a recognition certificate on behalf of the AUD C08 Association at the book launch event.

Poem submissions will be accepted via email audclass08@gmail.com till the 15th of March 2008.
