The Honorary Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Malta, accompanied by Mr. Ahmad Bin Byat, Director General Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, Chairman
Emirates Integrated Telecommunication, and President of the Dubai Educational Council, visited the American University in Dubai (AUD) on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. He was greeted by Dr. Lance de Masi, President of AUD, and Mr. Elias Bou Saab, Executive Vice President of AUD.
The Prime Minister, who is in Dubai on an official visit, was accompanied by a delegation including Honorary Austin Gatt, Minister for Investment, Industry and Information Technology (MIIIT), Mr. Leonard Callus, Deputy Head of Prime Minister's Secretariat, Mr. Anthony P. Tabone, Consul General, Consulate General of Malta in Dubai, Mr. Claudio Grech, Head of Secretariat MIIIIT, Ms Josephine Vassallo, Communications and Press Secretary OPM, and Mr. Chris Falzon, Chairman of Malta Enterprise.
During the meeting, the Honorary Lawrence Gonzi discussed with Dr. de Masi, Mr. Bou Saab and Mr. Bin Byat the history of AUD, and the pace at which the University has evolved over a relatively short period of time to become a leading educational institution in the region. They also discussed the UAE system of higher education. They exchanged ideas about potential future collaboration between AUD and the University of Malta . At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that a delegation from AUD will visit the University of Malta , in the near future, to establish a mutual educational exchange of experience and research initiatives.
The meeting was followed by a lengthy tour of the AUD campus, which included visits to the University's different departments and schools, library and auditorium.
