The American University in Dubai (AUD) hosted fundraising event titled Dubai Cares, AUD Cares to benefit Dubai Cares. Dubai Cares, which was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, aims at educating more than a million children worldwide by raising donations across Dubai . Dubai Cares will support children's primary education in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa . This humanitarian campaign is determined to bring together the communities within Dubai . Earlier this month, AUD pledged to donate two million dirhams to Dubai Cares campaign through donations raised by faculty, staff and students.
All proceeds from this evening will be dedicated to Dubai Cares campaign. It is worth mentioning that AUD has been holding a week long campaign on campus to collect donations for Dubai Cares.
Mr. Elias Bou Saab , Executive Vice President at AUD, attended the evening and noted, “AUD realizes the importance of education and encourages the participation in humanitarian acts. Dubai Cares, AUD Cares is committed to this initiative and plans on raising awareness among the youth. AUD' s faculty, staff and student bodies are all proud to be able to participate in this event.”
Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai (KHDA) said, “AUD is the first higher education organization that offered its support to Dubai Cares Campaign by committing a donation of AED two million. The AUD staff and students have always come up with creative ideas and initiatives. This activity is creative, entertaining, and beneficial. It also reflects their commitment towards Dubai Cares campaign. We are proud of the efforts by AUD. Dubai Cares, AUD Cares helps reiterate the duty of giving to others in the hearts and minds of the students. It also elevates their level of commitment to humanity. It is one of the success stories of commitment from the higher education organizations for the Dubai Cares campaign. We are looking forward for more success stories.”
The evening commenced with an Iftar held by AUD's Khaleeji Club in the Ramadan tent in AUD's main campus. The Ramadan Iftar, which was sponsored and hosted under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was attended by a large number of students, faculty and staff who all attended to experience the true Ramadan tradition. The Iftar was followed by UAE Folklore Speakers and Traditional Emirati games.
AUD's Khaleeji Club, presided by UAE national Abdullah Al Nuaimi, was set up to unite the students from the GCC countries with the purpose of introducing the AUD community to the culture, values, and tradition of the region.
The Iftar was then followed by a volleyball tournament and Suhoor hosted under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The tournament comprised of two matches. The first took place between AUD's Women Volley Ball Team and Emirates Airlines with AUD winning 2 to 0. The second game took place between AUD's Men Volley Ball Team and the Lebanese Youth Team with AUD winning 3 to 2.
The evening ended with a traditional Ramadan Suhoor organized by The American University in Dubai . A large number of students, faculty, family and friends attended the Suhoor and enjoyed the food and delicacies of the Holy Month. |
