DME – AUD ACADEMY: A Training Program for Derivatives

DME - AUD Academy in association with the Securities Investment Institute (SII) offers training for candidates willing to prepare for the first examination module of the "Certificate in Derivatives".

Participants attending this two-day course will acquire the following:
  • Practical understanding of advising and/or dealing in derivatives by individuals working on behalf of professional wholesale or retail clients, and are willing to acquire qualifications to assist them in securing careers as commodities traders
  • Enhanced knowledge of the main concepts and principles which underlie the creation, valuation, trading and management of commodity derivatives
  • A comprehensive overview of OTC, commodity, structured and credit derivatives

The training program will provide an introduction to derivatives, focusing on futures, forwards and options as tools for risk management in commodity trading. The course is followed by an exam that comprises one of the Security & Investment Institute's (SII) two examination modules of the "Certificate in Derivatives".

  • To provide an international benchmark qualification designed to build on any candidate’s knowledge of derivatives and equip them with the expertise required for their job roles in advising or dealing in commodity derivatives
  • To provide professional recognition and internationally accredited qualifications to support the industry’s level of professionalism
  • To improve the efficiency of the market place by training regional talent to become more knowledgeable about commodities price risk management and lead them to specialize in exchange traded derivatives

General Overview

Element 2: Underlying Markets
Introduces government debt/corporate debt, foreign exchange contracts, money market contracts, equity markets, softs and agriculturals, base and precious metals, energy, and exotics

Element 3: Exchange Traded Futures and Options
The various exchanges, trading platforms, and clearing mechanisms

Element 4: Principles of Exchange Traded Futures and Options
Introduces futures pricing, options pricing, market transparency, trade reporting and monitoring, order/instruction flow and order type, as well as trade registration
Element 5: Principles of OTC Derivatives
The concepts and characteristics of OTC Derivatives, ISDA documentation, forwards and swaps, credit default swaps, other swap types, structured products, options, market platforms and trade processing, settlement and processing of OTC contracts, and OTC collateral processes

Element 6: Principles of Clearing
Introduces definition and purpose of clearing, margin, the principles of margin, and collateral/credit

Element 7: Delivery and Settlement
Aspects of delivery; and exercising options

Element 8: Trading, Hedging and Investment Strategies
Derivative users, futures spread trading, options strategies, basics of hedging (Futures), basics of hedging (Options), comparison of exchange traded and OTC hedges, and applications of derivative strategies
