Sarah Lahti, an Assistant Professor of Art & Design in the Visual Communications department of the American University in Dubai, has been awarded the
highly coveted Fulbright Grant by the Council of International Scholars in the United States of America.
The Fulbright Program, established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, “aims to bring a
little more knowledge, a little more reason, and a little more compassion into world affairs and thereby to increase the chance that nations will
learn at last to live in peace and friendship”. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United
States Department of State.
Professor Lahti will be conducting field work in 2008-2009 in two archeological sites. The sites are located in Oman, specifically in Bat and
Shisr, and are both officially classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Professor Lahti will be using advanced animation modeling software to generate 3D visualizations of the sites. These sites are not fully excavated,
documented, or preserved due, in part, to their remote physical locations. Professor Lahti's field work will help shed new light on these ancient cultural
treasures and will call attention to the culture that created them.
