The External Affairs Department at the American University in Dubai is seeking to appoint a qualified External Affaires Coordinator to assist in the managing of AUD’s communications and marketing efforts, including Internet and intranet; publications; public and media relations, and alumni relations. The Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the development of AUD’s image and building brand awareness with all stakeholders in the global marketplace.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Administer and implement all Communications efforts in public relations, web, and publications areas.
- Maintain press list and cultivate relationships in broadcast, print, and online media (local, regional and international) that result in media coverage.
- Implement strategic plan for increasing awareness of AUD activities through full range of media outlets, as well as web and AUD publications.
- Implement process for evaluation of potential "stories" to publicize.
- Facilitate the writing, preparation and distribution of press releases on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Manage print, video, radio, and online "monitoring services" to ensure coverage of AUD activities is tracked, recorded, and archived.
- Attract and manage support for volunteer staff on an as-needed basis.
- Work with Academic and Administrative Council members to assess and prioritize publicity needs.
- Coordinate and Work with IT Manager to develop web-based content, which meets AUD’s external public relations, marketing, and educational goals.
- Update, manage and coordinate the Alumni database.
- Develop ideas to maintain and increase good relations with the Alumni.
- Coordinate and manage the alumni newsletter.
- Develop external liaisons and partnerships that increase the visibility of AUD locally, regionally, and internationally.
- Generate innovative external affairs ideas.
- Assume related miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Competencies and Skills utilized:
- Creative thinker with the ability to understand AUD's wide-range of activities, and to promote and market those activities to global audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on translating concepts into compelling and easily understandable terms.
- Ability to represent AUD in a professional manner and easily communicate its mission to outside forums, including but not limited to the press.
- Understanding of a wide ranges of marketing and communication mediums, including print, video, and e-commerce/web.
- Self-motivated and deadline oriented, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
- Strong team and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team with minimum supervision.
Essential Qualifications
- BA / MBA or equivalent from a recognized, reputable university.
- Track record of effectiveness in managing relationships.
- Familiarity with the UAE / Gulf business environment.
- Strong professional references.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and speak Arabic.
- Fluent in English (read, write and speak).
- 2-4 years’ of direct involvement handling external affairs.
- Computer skills (thorough working knowledge of Windows; proficiency in word processing, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets).
Experience of working in a truly multicultural setting including Public Relations, adaptability and resourcefulness are definite advantages.
