In Fall 2008, the American University in Dubai (AUD) will launch its newly-created Academic Advising Center (AAC). Reporting to the Office of the Provost and Chief Academic Officer and working in close coordination with the school deans, department chairs, faculty, the Registrar’s Office and the Admissions Office.
The AAC will provide program-specific academic advising to AUD’s undergraduate student body and will aim to achieve the following objectives:
- Ensure that before and during each registration period and through each semester and summer term, students have access to expert academic advice and guidance that helps them in selecting their courses consistently with the completion requirements, pre-requisites and course sequencing in their program;
- Assist students in charting a study path that can facilitate successful and timely completion of their program;
- Assist undecided students and students who are considering a program or concentration change in selecting a program or concentration that is compatible with their academic strengths, personal and professional interests, and career objectives;
- Provide guidance and advice on course loads, withdrawal from courses, and other academic issues, to students, especially those who are facing academic difficulties;
The AAC will be staffed by four Academic Advisors—two to advise business students, one to advise engineering and information technology students, and one to advise interior design and visual communication students. Besides their primary appointment in the AAC, the Academic Advisors will also carry a reduced teaching load (two courses in each of the fall and spring semesters and one course in one summer term).
