Dean - School of Art and Design

The American University in Dubai (AUD) offers two four-year undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree; these are the Interior Design program and the Visual Communication program. Both programs are well established and enjoy a very good reputation in the professional community.

As a strategic move to consolidate and grow its offerings in the art and design disciplines, AUD will create a School of Art and Design that will house the Interior Design and Visual Communication programs as departments in the School. The University is searching for a founding Dean to implement this move and lead the new school. The University invites applications for the above position to begin in Fall 2008.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in an art and design discipline from a recognized university ( Candidates with an MFA and experience in leading and growing art and design programs will be considered. )
Strong leadership and managerial qualities
Proven track record (10+ years) and evidence of excellence in university teaching in one or more art and design disciplines
Proven track record of scholarly and professional activityy
Demonstrated leadership ability and proven track record in academic administration
Experience in curriculum development
Experience in university and art and design school accreditation processes
Significant international and multicultural exposure
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Additional Qualifications:

Professional experience of significant variety and scope in the art and design field
Ability to network in the local, regional and international academic and professional communities

The compensation package for this position is competitive and is based on the expatriate model. The package includes tax-exempt base salary, housing, annual two-way airfare, contributory health/life insurance, professional memberships, conference attendance expenses, assistance with children's tuition, and other components.
