Program Chair of Interior Design

 

The American University in Dubai seeks an outstanding individual to lead and manage its Interior Design Program, to start in Fall 2008.

The purpose of the Interior Design curriculum at the American University in Dubai is to provide students with the practical and analytical skills of the designer ranging from freehand, perspective and computerized drawing to studies in color theory and the history of interior design. Students can then progress further into the core of the curriculum by developing their technical and theoretical base, thereby applying their knowledge and creative talents in the areas of residential and commercial design, business practice and production information. In this way, steady progress is achieved before the senior student is ready to tackle the more complex challenges of the final integrated design projects where the candidate's interpretative, cognitive and innovative qualities are rigorously examined and tested.

The track record of the ideal candidate will have demonstrated:
  • commitment to excellence in education and high standards for student achievement and instructional systems;
  • ability to lead with tact, sincerity, compassion, and resourcefulness; ability to motivate faculty and students to improve the teaching / learning environment;
  • innovation and creativity in designing programs, and courses;
  • commitment to and history of highly effective teaching;
  • management and administrative competencies;
  • strategic thinking and problem-solving skills;
Required Qualifications:
  • a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in a related field, from a Western-accredited University;
  • a solid educational background in Interior Design studies;
  • experience in team building, faculty collaboration, and cooperative learning strategies;
  • excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • self-initiative, a goal oriented person with a sense of time and task commitments;
  • excellent writing skills; publication experience
  • background in administration, supervision, and management;

The compensation package for this position is competitive, and is based on the expatriate model. Besides tax-exempt basic salary, it includes housing, annual two-way airfare, contributory health/life insurance, professional memberships, conference attendance expenses, assistance with children's tuition, and other components.
