In Fall 2008, the American University in Dubai will add a two-course sequence in World Cultures to the liberal arts (general education) courses which are a required component of all undergraduate degree programs offered by the University. This new course sequence will augment the University's existing course offerings in the humanities and will provide students with a broad, integrative, interdisciplinary context for understanding and critically evaluating issues that pertain to the human experience –- past, present and future.
The University invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Humanities, to start in August 2008. Applicants from a wide range of academic disciplines in the humanities, arts and cognate fields will be considered.
The ideal candidate will have
- a doctorate in a humanities or an arts discipline, or in a cognate field, from a Western accredited university (applicants with a masters degree who have significant teaching experience will be considered);
- previous teaching experience in a Western higher education system, with high ratings of teaching effectiveness;
- evidence of scholarly activity or strong potential for scholarly contributions;
- excellent written and oral communication skills; and
- an ability to work collegially within a team of faculty members from diverse disciplines.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the new World Cultures courses and other humanities / arts courses.
The compensation package for this position is competitive and is based on the expatriate model. Besides a tax-exempt basic salary, the package includes housing, annual two-way airfare, health / life insurance, professional memberships, conference attendance expenses, assistance with children's tuition, and other components.
