AUD SGA Organizes Its Induction Ceremony and Leadership Luncheon for current Academic Year 2009/ 2010
Bushra Finaish: Ceremony highlights Aspirations of Newly Formed SGA Team with a Resounding Sentiment for a Year of Accomplishments

"I, knowing the duties of my office as set forth in the By-Laws of the Student Government Association of the American University in Dubai, do hereby swear to execute faithfully the duties of my position. To the best of my ability, I will protect and defend the Constitution and By-Laws of the Student Government Association of the American University in Dubai," with those words, the President of the Student Government Association (SGA) at The American University in Dubai, Rany Metry Deskoores, SGA President, took the Oath of Office at the SGA Induction Ceremony and Leadership Luncheon organized by the AUD Student Services Office on the University’s campus.

The SGA announced its new team of officers for the academic year 2009/ 2010 in the presence of the Student Services Team and officers from over 35 and student run clubs at AUD.

AUD SGA Induction - PresidentOn the significance of the event, Mrs. Bushra Finaish, Assistant Dean of Student Services and Student Support Manager at AUD, stresses:
 
"The ceremony highlights the aspirations of the new SGA team, the official representative voice of the student body, and showcases the support and collaboration they can expect from the AUD community. It also helps foster communication and cooperation among AUD Student Clubs, since it provides the opportunity for those clubs’ officers to mingle with each other and with the SGA. The event’s resounding sentiment is on hopes for a year of accomplishments and increased enthusiasm among the AUD Student Body."
As for the SGA Elections, they are held every Spring Semester and officers serve one full year. In addition to the elected officers, three members-at-large are appointed by the newly elected officers upon the receipt and review of applications. These members serve on a term-by-term basis. All students are eligible for membership. The SGA Executive Board for the current academic year comprises the following student personnel: Rany Metry Deskoores- President; Bassilio Dahlan- Vice President; George Bou Saab- Secretary; Shreya Maheshwari- Public relations Officer; Marco Tadini- Media Officer; Aziza Osman- Treasurer and Hoda El Skiekh Saroor- Bookstore Manager.

AUD SGA Induction - UnaizaCommenting on the SGA team, Mrs. Unaiza Goplani, Student Activities Coordinator at AUD, asserts:
 
"I look forward to working with this team throughout the year as I am confident that they will not only transform the Student Government Association, but they will leave an indelible mark on AUD."

Students at AUD have a voice in the governance of the University by way of the SGA as the latter serves as a liaison between them and the University’s Administration and plays an active role in planning and coordinating student activities. The primary commitment of the SGA is to provide responsible and equitable student leadership to AUD's diverse, multicultural student body; whereas its’ secondary commitment is to provide the students with an opportunity to integrate and unite as a student community.
Some SGA activities include: conducting the SGA Annual Forum, which provides the students and administration with a platform to communicate, and is the outcome of campus wide surveys administrated by the SGA, that inquire about concerns, requirements and opinions of the student body, hosting and organizing events, such as International Night, which celebrates the melting pot of cultures that is AUD, and holding the annual Desert Safari, which gives students an opportunity to unwind and enjoy local culture.
