Institutional Effectiveness

The Institutional Effectiveness (IE) process allows The American University in Dubai to document efforts in setting goals, measuring attainment of those goals, and using the results to make changes to continually improve student learning and institutional services. Through this process, the university is committed to effective planning in support of its mission. In addition to this self-improvement purpose, the IE process is used in response to external requests for accountability.

The IE planning process at AUD involves three tiers of planning and assessment:
 First Tier  Institutional Level
 Second Tier  Program or Administrative Level
 Third Tier  Course Level

Functions of the IE Department

  • Accreditation
    • Coordinate and oversee the accreditation efforts of the University
    • Monitor compliance
  • Assessment
    • Coordinate assessment efforts
    • Provide training to faculty and staff
  • Institutional Research
    • Collect data (including surveys)
    • Disseminate data

Institutional Effectiveness Mission

The Institutional Effectiveness Department (IED) provides support to all the academic and administrative departments at AUD as the University engages in continuous improvement of its academic programs and student services based on the student as the center of the educational experience and with a continued focus on student learning.

Institutional Effectiveness Purpose Statement

IED facilitates a set of assessment activities based on the mission, values, and goals of AUD so that the University is able to take a critical view of itself as an evolving institution of higher education. By measuring, evaluating and analyzing data, AUD can utilize these results in support of improvements to its educational mission as well as to the supporting structures, programs, policies, personnel and facilities.

Institutional Effectiveness Goals

  • To gather data as prescribed by the annual timetable and planning cycle;
  • To assist in the development of assessment tools and methods of analysis;
  • To interpret results for planning purposes;
  • To guide AUD through the planning process;
  • To assist in the implementation of improvements;
  • To facilitate analysis and action plans as appropriate.
